Getting California Working Again!

Everything begins with a job. Job’s allow parent’s to house, feed and care for their children. They provide dignity and purpose. They strengthen communities and enable progress, both economic and socially.

Larry will make job creation and retention his number one priority as a member of the Assembly. He’ll work for the training and educational programs necessary to assure our residents are ready and able to seize the opportunities the 21st century economy will create.

Larry has helped businesses create jobs through most of his professional life. As a mediator, arbitrator and attorney, he’s worked closely with entrepreneurs to help them build enterprises that give people jobs, economic security, and self-worth. As a member of the Assembly he’ll bring his experience and commitment to a Working California.

Larry reading to students.California’s schools were once the envy of the nation  Our K-12 programs ably prepared our children for a bright future. Our network of community colleges, state universities and the University of California system provided our residents with some of the best higher education opportunities in the country. Our vocational schools developed a skilled and innovative work force. To build a Working California we need to support our public schools in a fiscally prudent way.

Larry has experienced almost every aspect of California public education.  He is a product of California public schools.  He has taken courses in California's community colleges and has seen first hand that they are an essential part of creating opportunity for every California citizen.  He has guest lectured in the state university system.

Larry believes passionately in the University of California. He obtained his undergraduate degree from UCLA, where he was undergraduate Student Body President and an Outstanding Graduating Senior, and received his law degree from UC Davis where he met his wife, Marsha.  Larry's kids graduated from UCSD and attend UCLA.  Larry was an Assistant to the President of the UC.

As a Trustee of the San Juan School District Larry has helped preserve the financial integrity of the district, while supporting a collaborative educational environment that continues to make great strides in student learning. Despite historic financial challenges, Larry has helped the district go forward. Larry is the only candidate for the 5th Assembly District with a proven record of improving schools while balancing a budget.

As an Assembly Member, Larry will bring his deep experience and background in education to bear on state policies to make California’s education system a source of pride again.  He will be a leader on educational policy and bring a powerful commitment to the fundamental importance of public education in California.

Larry Miles believes all Californians deserve a health care system that delivers both world-class care and financial security. They deserve a system that is accessible, affordable and fair. Larry will fight for a health care system that boosts the state’s economy, attracts new businesses and strengthens existing enterprises. That means a system that ensures all Californians have basic health care coverage. It means a system that neither bankrupts families nor the state, one that provides the choices California’s diverse population deserves and one that stimulates ongoing and long-term innovation.

Larry’s mother was an emergency room nurse for almost 60 years, and he helped lead Flying Samaritan medical missions for 11 years.  Larry understands the close connection between job security and health care reform. Strengthening California’s health care system will be one of Larry’s top priorities in the State Capitol.

Balancing a budget requires making tough decisions and bringing people of diverse opinions together. Talking about these tasks is easier than doing them. Larry Miles is the only candidate in the 5th Assembly District who has a track record of making those tough budget decisions and bringing people together to work through them.   The skills he’s brought to bear to improve our children’s education while balancing the district’s budget will make him an invaluable leader in the State Capitol.

As a member of the Assembly, Larry will bring this same commitment to financial responsibility to state government. California can not live beyond its means, but simply saying "no" is not leadership.  The state needs to create a sound and secure financial platform on which Californian’s can build prosperity and opportunity. Larry Miles has the skill, experience and determination to help bring fiscal responsibility to Sacramento.
